Building your Vivo
A home fit for your fish!
Start building your Vivo world today. Simply follow our step-by-step instructions to set up your Vivo in minutes. Then wait just 7 days before adding your fish.
Fish like to be in a cool, quiet place away from direct sunlight. When filled, your Vivo weighs around 25kgs so it needs to be on a flat surface close to a power source. A special Vivo Stand* is available, which is ideal.
Once you’ve found the perfect spot for your Vivo – where it won’t get knocked or disturbed – stick to it! If you do have to move your aquarium, make sure you empty it first. Do not attempt to move your Vivo while it is full of water.
Your Vivo is made up of these main parts:
Also included with your Vivo: Vivo Safe, Vivo Care, Vivo Goldfish Flake, Vivo Filter Start and Vivo Power Transformer. If any parts are missing, please contact your local stockist.
*NB: Stand only available from your local stockist
Fit the filter
Some people think you must have plants to keep aquarium water healthy and oxygenated, but in fact all you need is a good filter. Your Vivo Power-Filter hooks inside the back of the tank and slides behind the obstacle course. See ‘Get connected’ to find out how to plug it in.
Get connected
Before you fill up your Vivo you need to connect all the electrical products.
Make sure the MAINS POWER IS OFF, then match the right lead to the right socket (‘F’ for Filter, ‘P’ for Mains Power). But don’t switch on yet, you’ve got to fill it with water first.
*Available separately

Obstacle Course
Your fish will love this obstacle course to safely play and hide in. The pieces easily slot together in loads of different ways – so start experimenting!
Backdrops
Slot the bottom of the backdrops between the base section and the outside of the tank. The tops tuck snugly under the tank lip.
Decorate
Carefully place your obstacle course into your Vivo. You can also buy special coloured Vivo Base, Up Lighting and Down Lighting to see your Vivo world in a whole new light.
Wait for it
Once your Vivo is set up and filled with water, switch it on. You should wait at least 7 days before you add your fish. This is how long it takes for the water to warm up to room temperature.
Introducing your fish
Once you’ve waited 7 days you can carefully introduce your fish. When you go to buy your fish, mention that you have a brand new aquarium and follow the shop’s advice about what fish will be suitable and how best to introduce them. Your fish will come in a little bag, so scoop out some water and gently float the bag in the top of the tank for 10 minutes. Roll down the top of the bag and let your fish swim out – be careful, they are very delicate.
Once your fish are in your Vivo you may never have to touch them again. But on the rare occasion that you do, we advise that you use a Vivo Net to protect their fins and scales.
Remember, moving house is stressful for everyone – fish too. So go easy on the little fella!
Make the water ‘safe’
Fill the tank up to the water-level line with fresh water. Take the bottle marked ‘Vivo Safe’ and carefully add 10 capfuls near the filter. Fish can’t live in untreated tap water, so don’t forget to do this, or they may not survive.
Put a lid on it
The clear dome simply twists and locks into position on the lid. The feeding hatch just slots into the top.
Go digital
To help care for both your fish and your Vivo world, there’s a simple digital control panel to remind you when to feed, clean and service your Vivo. It might surprise you, but too much feeding and cleaning can harm your fish just as much as too little. So make sure you set your Digi-Care Guide and check it regularly for updates.
There are four lights that work with onscreen prompts to tell you what to do. You simply follow the prompts and use the ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ scroll buttons along with the ‘OK’ button to select and set functions (see the ‘Step-by-Step’ section).

Feed Fish Alert
IT’S VIVO FOOD TIME!
The ‘FEED FISH’ alert comes on twice a day at 7am and 5pm.
Fish OK?
After you have fed the fish, Vivo will ask you how the fish look. Press ‘OK’ when you’ve checked they’re happy.
What to do if your fish look poorly
If your fish show any of the symptoms shown, they may be sick and need Vivo Fish Medicine to make them better. Talk to your fish supplier for further advice.
Have a look on www.vivoworld.com for even more help and advice on looking after your fishy friends.
Filter OK?
Every day Vivo will ask you if the filter’s ‘OK’. Check that the water is still flowing freely through the filter. An easy way to do this is to check whether the water surface either side of the filter is disturbed. If it is, just press ‘OK’.
If the filter water flow has stopped then check the following:
Thank you
Once you have responded to the instructions from your Digi-Care Guide, you will receive a ‘THANK YOU’ message from your Vivo. Just press ‘OK’.
Goldfish can remember simple skills for over 6 months.
Clean Tank Alert
4 WEEK CLEAN
Every four weeks the ‘CLEAN TANK’ alert will light up. Follow the onscreen prompts and press ‘OK’ when you’ve done each task.
Note
There is no need to remove your fish whilst you clean your Vivo. They will swim around quite happily while you perform these steps.
Step 1 - Remove and clean decor
Carefully lift out the obstacle course (or other décor) and take it to a sink to clean. Dismantle the pieces and wipe clean with a Vivo Wipe. Do not use bleach or other cleaning products. Press ‘OK’ when you’ve finished.
Step 2 - Clean Vivo walls
Wipe walls with a Vivo Wipe. Use the rough blue side for inside the tank and the soft white side for the outside. Press ‘OK’ when you’ve finished.
Step 3 - Vac and clean
You can buy a Vivo Vac to help remove water at the same time as deep cleaning your Vivo – follow instructions supplied with your Vivo Vac to drop the water level to the ‘CLEAN LEVEL’ marker on the side of your tank.
If you do not have a Vivo Vac, remove water from your Vivo using a clean container until the water level drops to the ‘CLEAN LEVEL’ marker (approx. 5 litres of water). Press ‘OK’.
Step 4 - Replace Filter Pad
To keep your Vivo Power-Filter in tip-top condition, replace the filter pad once every four weeks (you do not need to remove the filter itself).
Step 5 - Redecorate!
Now is a good time to update your Vivo world. Why not swap the obstacle course around so that your fish can have a new adventure? Plus, look out for the funky range of Vivo Theme Packs and accessories to really excite your fishy friends!
Step 6 - Test water
Use Vivo Test to check the water quality. Using Vivo Test is the only way to be sure that the water is still good for your fish to live in. Press ‘OK’ when you’ve done that.
Step 7 - Top up water and use Vivo Safe
Refill with tap water to the water mark on the side of the tank. Add two cupfuls of Vivo Safe to stop the tap water harming your fish. Press ‘OK’ when you’ve done that.
Goldfish can recognise different human faces!
Water Treatment Alert
Add Vivo Care
Your Vivo Power-Filter processes all the waste your fish produce, keeping your Vivo clean. Adding Vivo Care ensures the water in your Vivo remains safe and fresh for your fish to live in. Add one measuring cupful (20ml) two weeks after you have set-up your Vivo, then one further cupful every four weeks. Your Digi-Care Guide will remind you when it is time to do this. When you finish, press ‘OK’.
After you have treated the water you will receive a ‘THANK YOU’ message from your Vivo! Press ‘OK’.
Service Filter Alert
26 Week Clean
You will need a grown up to help you with this part. Every 26 weeks Vivo will tell you to clean the filter. Follow the onscreen prompts and then press ‘OK’ when you’ve finished.
Step 1
Twist off bottom section of filter (Figure 1)
Step 2
Remove filter plate (Figure 2)
Simply pull the filter plate from the bottom section. The friendly bacteria from your Vivo live on this plate, so take care NOT to clean them off.
Step 3
Lift out power blade assembly
The power blade is held in place magnetically. Grab by the spindle and pull out.
Step 4
Check power blade for signs of wear or damage (Figure 3)
Clean power blade and chamber with a Vivo Wipe under a cold running tap. If the power blade is damaged or worn out it will need replacing.
Step 5
Re-assemble filter
